China to keep close eye on external intervention in domestic matters of SL

China takes a strong stand against external intervention in the domestic matters of Sri Lanka and disapproves of attempts to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka in the world using Humans rights as a political tool, Yang Jiechi, China’s State Councilor and Secretary General of the Foreign Affairs Leading Group has said.

The observation was made when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on a visit to China, called on Yang Jiechi.

PM Ranil Wickremesinghe to leave for Hong Kong

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave the country for Hong Kong on Thursday (December 1) to participate in The World in 2017 Gala Dinner, organized by The Economist.

The Prime Minister is one of the speakers of the event. He will be accompanied by Prof. Maithri Wickremesinghe and Sri Lankan Ambassador in China Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku.

Bhutan’s prime minister Tshering Tobgay was the guest invitee for The World in 2017 Gala Dinner held in Singapore on Tuesday (29).

The World in 2017 Gala Dinner brings together an intellectually curious audience including readers of The Economist, C-suite executives and business leaders, senior representatives from government, leading academics and thinkers.

“The World in 2017 begins with networking cocktails, followed by inspiring and thought-provoking forecasts over dinner and along with a prediction-inspired table quiz,” according to its website.
