Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon has expressed concern over the increase in political polarization in Maldives.

In a statement issued from the office of the UN chief said that Ban expressed concern that increase in political polarization was making dialogue between the government and political parties difficult.

Ban encouraged the government and the political parties to work towards an inclusive dialogue.

“The Secretary-General strongly encourages all concerned to work toward an inclusive dialogue aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions based on compromise, the primacy of the national interest and the preservation of democratic principles and institutions,” read the statement.

The UN chief said that the UN was ready to extend its support to an inclusive and genuine dialogue between the Maldivian government and political parties.
