Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP)’s Department of Law, Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies, organized a seminar on “Right to Water: A New Paradigm of Environmental Law” on 9 May 2017. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP, Speaker, Bangladesh Parliament, was present as the chief guest while Vice Chancellor of BUP Maj Gen Md Salahuddin Miaji was the special guest. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive, Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) presented the keynote.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in her speech said clean and safe drinking water was becoming scarce. Due to climate change and environmental pollution, this problem is worsening.
She said the government had taken integrated efforts to address this issue. “We are committed to provide our people with safe and clean water in accordance with our obligation both under international and domestic law.”
Pro-VC Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, officials, teachers, students and others were also present at the programme.
