Nepal Police arrests six Chinese with ‘illegal currency’


Nepal Police has arrested six Chinese tourists —five women and one man — from Kathmandu with ‘illegal’ foreign currency as they were heading towards Kerung pass, entry point to Tibet, some 150–KM from Kathmandu Wednesday.

Police said they intercepted three ‘tourist buses’ headed towards Kerung from Nagdhunga , and took into custody six out of 25 ‘tourists’, all Chinese, along with US and Australian Dollars, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen as well as Nepali Rupees and RMB (Chinese currency) worth around USD450,000.

Those arrested are identified as Xie Xiyun (50/Female), Liu Xiaomei (44/Female) Zhao Jiangzhen (47/Female) Tang Yunxiang (47 Female), Yao Jianwan (44/Male) and Zheng Shunyan (30 Female).

Police refused to divulge further details saying ‘they are under interrogation at the moment’.
