Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz has invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the concluding ceremony of the 23-country joint military exercise to be held in Dammam on April 16.

Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah HM Al Mutairi handed over a letter of the Saudi King to the prime minister when he made a courtesy call on her at her official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday.

Prime minister’s Press Secretary Ihasanul Karim said 23 countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in the month-long joint military exercise titled “Gulf Shield-1” that began on March 18.

He also said both Sheikh Hasina and the Ambassador expressed satisfaction at the existing level of bilateral relations between the two brotherly Muslim countries.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali was present on the occasion.

Previously in 2016, a joint military exercise commanded by Saudi Arabia titled “North Thunder” with the participation of 20 Arab and Islamic countries was held between February and March.

On March 3 this year, Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haque visited the Armed Forces Exhibition for Diversity of Requirements and Capabilities (AFED 2018) in Riyadh where he expressed hopes of increasing military cooperation between the two countries.
