Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will visit Afghanistan on Saturday (September 15) for one-day trip on the invitation of his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani.
It will be his first foreign trip since becoming foreign minister.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Islamabad, and US Defence Secretary James Mattis’s unannounced visit to Kabul early this week would made Qureshi’s visit interesting.
Well-placed sources said late yesterday that Qureshi will also be meeting President Ashraf Ghani.
Ghani will be invited to Islamabad by Qureshi on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is visiting Islamabad on Friday (September 14).
He is schedule to meet President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Khan separately.
The sources said that he will convey the message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the leadership of Pakistan.
