Myanmar attends ASEAN-U.S Foreign Ministerial informal meeting

Union Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin attended the Informal ASEAN-U.S Ministerial Meeting held at Lotte Hotel in New York on September 27, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

During the meeting, Lao’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith and United States Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan acted as chairpersons. They discussed promoting bilateral relations between ASEAN-Myanmar along with exchanging views on local and international issues, according to the MOFA.

He also attended the high-level meeting under the title “United to end tuberculosis: an urgent global response to global epidemic” held on September 26 and made a speech.

He addressed although the break-out of tuberculosis epidemic is lessened and death rates are also declined worldwide, it is sad to see that millions of people are suffering from the disease which can be curable. Most tuberculosis patients are found in developing countries and it is a challenge to make continuous development to solve the issue. It needs to review anti-tuberculosis disease and funding to cure the disease. The countries need to provide funding for making research and development with innovative, effective and cure which can be reachable for ordinary people.

He continued Myanmar government is implementing Anti-tuberculosis National Strategy (2016-2020). It is finding TB and diabetes suspected patients to cure them. Drug-resistant TB and extensively drug-resistant TB can be curable with modernized technology making to reduce the drug-resistant patients.
