At least two persons of Bangladeshi origin were killed and four to five others were injured in the attacks at two mosques in Christchurch of New Zealand today.
Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in New Zealand Shafiqur Rahman confirmed this to The Daily Star.
Identities of the deceased Bangladeshis could not be known immediately.
The incident left between nine and 27 people killed and scores of others injured as a gunman launched attacks at two mosques during the Jummah prayers.
Bangladesh cricket team players, who are now in Christchurch, survived the attack by narrow margin and are now safe. They were going to one of the mosques to offer prayers when the incident took place, and later were taken back to team hotel safely.
